Candice Williams: The Visionary Making Reading Fun and Accessible for All

In the heart of Detroit, a remarkable educator and entrepreneur is transforming the landscape of literacy. Candice Williams, a Detroit native and the founder of Urby Education, LLC, has garnered national attention for her innovative approach to reading and writing education. Known as "The Reading Revolutionary" by Detroit Entrepreneur Magazine, Williams is on a mission to ignite a passion for reading in children from diverse backgrounds, addressing the rising illiteracy rates particularly in the black community.

With a background as a teacher, Reading Specialist, and realtor, Williams saw a profound need for more engaging and effective reading instruction. This vision led her to establish Urby Education, a micro school designed to boost reading confidence in kids from grades K-5. Her unique blend of fun and education has resonated widely, evidenced by her substantial social media following—17,000+ on Instagram—and her impressive global reach with 2,000+ students from over 97 countries enrolled in her online courses on Udemy.

Williams' impact extends beyond the digital realm. She made a splash on television as the co-host of "The Teacher's Lounge Talk Show," a local talk show that enjoyed a successful five-season run. Her dynamic approach to making reading enjoyable is also reflected in her social media presence, where she shares engaging content alongside her nine-year-old son, Justin. Their collaborative efforts have captivated audiences on Instagram, YouTube, and Facebook.

Her creative contributions and insightful blogs have been featured by leading educational companies and platforms such as Really Good Stuff, Constructive Playthings, TeeRead, Teacher's Connect, We Empower Magazine, Voyage Michigan, and School Banks. Williams has also forged impactful partnerships with organizations like Udemy, Thermo Fisher Scientific, United Way of Southeastern Michigan, Focus Hope, and Diversified Community Services, among others. These collaborations amplify her mission, providing vital resources to inspire children to become confident readers.

In 2022, Williams expanded her vision with the opening of Urby Education’s first physical location in Oak Park, MI. This facility caters to students from Pre-K through 10th grade, creating a nurturing environment for literacy development. But Williams' ambitions don't stop there. She is currently laying the groundwork for the Urby Education Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit aimed at further broadening her impact and providing educational opportunities to even more children.

Candice Williams’ dedication to transforming literacy education is nothing short of revolutionary. Through her innovative teaching methods, engaging content, and strategic partnerships, she is not just changing how children learn to read—she’s changing their lives.
