DETROIT — In a surprising but powerful move, Detroit native and entrepreneur Arnold Boyd has officially launched a write-in campaign for Mayor of Detroit, shaking up a race already filled with well-known names and political veterans.
While voters have grown familiar with the current slate of candidates, Boyd’s entry brings something refreshingly different: real-world experience, grassroots grit, and a deep commitment to the communities that feel left behind in City Hall conversations.
“I’m not a politician — I’m a Detroiter who’s lived what this city goes through every day,” Boyd said. “I’ve raised a family here, built a business here, and now I’m stepping up to lead with heart, honesty, and a people-first agenda.”
The 2025 mayoral field includes public servants and policymakers who have spent years working in Detroit’s political arena. While Boyd respects the contributions of his opponents, he believes it's time to widen the lens — to center leadership that’s born out of the block clubs, barber shops, and small businesses that keep the city running.
“This is bigger than politics,” he adds. “This is personal.”
Boyd’s campaign is grounded in priorities like public safety, equitable housing, small business support, and reimagining what it means to govern with community trust at the forefront. Unlike traditional candidates, he isn’t bankrolled by large donors or legacy party backing — and he wears that as a badge of honor.
“I answer to the people, not a political machine,” he said. “And I’m proud of that.”
Support for Boyd has already begun to grow across neighborhoods, online spaces, and local grassroots circles. His message is simple but striking: Detroit deserves better — and together, we can make it happen.
