Ford's First Black Female Car Designer Honored with Presidential Recognition

Emeline King, Ford's first Black female car designer, was honored with the 2024 Presidential Lifetime Achievement Gold Award.

Hired in 1983, King made significant contributions to iconic models like the 1989 Thunderbird and the 2000 Thunderbird, as well as designing European vehicles. Her passion for automotive design began in childhood, inspired by her father, Earnest King, a fabrication specialist at Ford, who took her to the company Christmas party at the Design Center. King received her award on June 23, 2024, at Burton Manor Center, with President Joseph R. Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris in attendance. In an interview with Fox 2's Bre Teamer, she reflected on this remarkable achievement.
